Accommodation

We stayed at Central Backpackers – Old Quarter in Hanoi in a 8 bed dorm with private bathroom.

The rooms were a decent size with lockers underneath the beds. The common area/ bar/ restaurant was located on the 8th floor which gave you a wonderful view over the rooftops of Hanoi and was where you could enjoy free beer hour from 7-8pm every night and the occasional free shot (a very social atmosphere) Free breakfast was included in the price (your choice of either eggs and toast, or a bowl of pho) which was a bargain for only 110,000 VD/ $6.50 The hostel was in a great location, close to lots of restaurant, bars, street food and about a 10 minute walk to the lake. Staff were very helpful in booking tours, train and bus tickets and the hostel also has a very large bag storage area where you can leave your bags if you take side trips from Hanoi to Sapa or Halong Bay.

The only downfall of the place was that unfortunately when we stayed there was no running water from the 4th floor up… we had a room on the 6th floor 😦
